How Technology has Improved my Life

Technology plays an integral part in everyone’s life. My day consists of using technology constantly throughout the day. From waking up to my Android phone’s alarm clock app, using Pandora to listen to music on the drive to work, to checking my social networks on my laptop throughout the day, I would not know how to function properly without my devices.

I consider myself a technology power user, because I use devices more than anyone I know. I rely on my Samsung Galaxy S3’s unlimited data plan to tether my 4G connection to my MacBook Pro so that I can use Internet on the go. My Windows 7 desktop has dual monitors and has all sorts of registry tweaks to make it easier for me to use. I use my desktop as a Plex media server for my Roku box, so I can wirelessly stream all of my organized media to my TV. My wireless router is set up to allow any computer on my network to wirelessly print to the attached printer.

I have all these devices and use them constantly because I love the way it makes my life easier. Having all of my email accounts synced to one Gmail account makes keeping up with anyone a cinch. My Google Calendar keeps me on schedule, and I don’t have to memorize a single event. I can track the finances of my banks and credit cards in one location with Mint. Google Docs has made collaborating on group projects a breeze. I can sync all the pictures from my phone and digital camera to my Shutterfly account, and then sync them back to my phone and desktop as backups. I can keep all my important files on Google Drive’s cloud storage, so that I can access these documents on any computer. I have Google Chrome synced to my Gmail account, so I can sign in at any computer and keep all my logins, bookmarks, and history. I use Feedly to keep track of my RSS feeds, so that I can view all of my sites of interest in one central location. I have Prey anti-theft software installed on all of my devices, just in case something is stolen.

Technology has helped me throughout college to stay on track, and to never miss an event. Technology has made contacting family, friends, and professors easier than ever. Technology has assisted me in managing my finances, and keeping track of where all of my money is going. Technology has allowed me to keep all of my class notes and documents in a central, organized location for easy viewing and editing. Technology has made working in small groups for class easier than ever before.

Technology has made a huge impact on my life, and that is why I am pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering from Auburn University. I want to help make and improve technology that will help other people’s lives.
